Torrelaguna lies about 60 km north of Madrid, in the Sierra Norte, where the mountains open out onto the Jarama valley. It has around 5,000 inhabitants and one of the finest historic centres in the Madrid region: the Gothic church of Santa María Magdalena, the old granary linked to Cardinal Cisneros, remains of the town walls and stone mansions. As well as the houses in the centre, there are single-family homes and the Los Tomillares estate, in the north of the municipality.

It has no train: you get there by road, joining the A-1, which is about 9 km away, and there is a direct bus to Madrid from Plaza de Castilla, as well as routes to the surrounding villages. It acts as the service centre for the area. It appeals to people looking for a spacious home in a village with history, with asking prices among the lowest in the region, although they have risen sharply over the last year.
