Living and selling in Villa del Prado
Villa del Prado lies about 60 km south-west of Madrid, on the border with the province of Toledo and in the basin of the River Alberche. It has around 7,700 inhabitants and a very strong farming character, with market gardens, greenhouses, vineyards and olive groves, so much so that it is known as Madrid's kitchen garden. The centre keeps the Gothic church of Santiago Apóstol and the hermitage of the Virgen de la Poveda, and housing is mainly village houses.
It has no train: you get there by road via the M-507, and there is a direct bus from Príncipe Pío, with a journey of a little over an hour. The old railway line is now a greenway. It appeals to people looking for a spacious house in a rural setting or a second home. Asking prices are among the lowest in the region, although they have risen sharply over the last year.
