Living and selling in Chamberí

Chamberí is a central and very densely built district that was born with the Madrid Ensanche (city extension) approved in 1860. Its streets combine classic late 19th- and early 20th-century buildings with mid-century blocks, and there is a lot of neighbourhood life in areas such as Plaza de Olavide and Calle de Ponzano. Almagro, next to the Castellana, is one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Madrid, while Trafalgar, Arapiles and Gaztambide have more of a neighbourhood feel.

Metro lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 run through it, so almost anywhere in the district has a station nearby. There are municipal markets, theatres, schools and plenty of local shops. It is one of the favourite districts of families and professionals who want to live close to the centre without being in it, and according to idealista its average price is the second highest in the city.
