Living and selling in Centro

Centro is Madrid's historic centre and is home to places such as the Puerta del Sol, the Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, the Gran Vía and the Plaza de España. Its six administrative neighbourhoods include very well-known areas such as Malasaña, Chueca, Lavapiés, La Latina, Huertas and the Barrio de las Letras. The housing is mostly old: 19th-century and early 20th-century buildings, many of them refurbished, with high-ceilinged flats with balconies and often small floor areas.

It is the best-connected district in the city: Metro lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 and the Ópera–Príncipe Pío branch line stop here, and Sol station has Cercanías commuter rail. It attracts buyers who want to live on foot, close to work, culture and leisure. When selling, the floor, the light, whether there is a lift and the condition of the building count for a lot, because the differences between flats on the same street can be large.

  • Metro: lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 and the Ópera–Príncipe Pío branch; Cercanías at Sol
