Living and selling in Retiro
Retiro takes its name from the Buen Retiro park, the largest urban park in central Madrid, which covers a good part of the district. The Los Jerónimos neighbourhood, next to the Paseo del Prado and the Prado Museum, is one of the most elegant and expensive areas of the city. Ibiza and Niño Jesús combine good-quality classic buildings with plenty of local shops, while Pacífico, Adelfas and Estrella, to the south and east, have 20th-century buildings and more moderate prices.
Atocha station is right by its southern edge, and the district has Metro lines 1, 2, 6 and 9. It is a quiet and very residential district which, over the 20th century, became home to middle- and upper-income families. It is chosen above all by families and buyers who value having the park, the museums and the centre within walking distance.
- Metro: lines 1, 2, 6 and 9
- Buen Retiro park
- Prado Museum and Paseo del Prado (Los Jerónimos neighbourhood)
- Most expensive area according to idealista (September 2026): Jerónimos, €11,834/m²; most affordable: Adelfas, €6,322/m²
