Living and selling in the South-east of Madrid
The south-east of the Madrid region stretches from the countryside south of Alcalá de Henares to the river plains of the Tagus and the Tajuña, on the border with Guadalajara, Cuenca and Toledo. It is made up of 33 municipalities with around 122,000 inhabitants, mostly small and medium-sized villages among high plains, olive groves and vineyards. Among the best known are Chinchón, with its arcaded main square, Colmenar de Oreja, Morata de Tajuña, Villarejo de Salvanés, Nuevo Baztán, with its Baroque ensemble, Loeches, Campo Real and Villalbilla.
Housing combines village houses, terraced houses built in recent decades and many estates of detached houses, especially in the part closest to Alcalá de Henares and Arganda del Rey. There is no Cercanías commuter rail or Metro: people depend on the roads, with the A-3 and the R-3 as the main routes, and on intercity buses. Prices are among the lowest in the region and attract people looking for more space in exchange for longer journeys.
